All Hands on Deck
Giraffe and CheckIn’s growth over the last month has ensured that even more jobseekers are being given the opportunity to engage in one of our lively, happy work environments. Over four venues in Perth, jobseekers can reap the benefits of learning skills valuable to gaining work in Perthshire in the future.
Around 15 jobseekers helped to paint, build, move and clean the new Mill Street and Ladeside enteprises for their official openings and since then around 10 new jobseekers have started their training and volunteering within the partnership, mostly at the People’s Farm Food Market with a view to moving on once they are confident and able to do so. Overall, CheckIn and Giraffe are helping support 40 jobseekers currently across the enterprises with around 10 now in employment with the organisations as they expand.
New Group Activities
The Ladeside training centre is set to be the base for a wider range of craft and group activities over the next few months — encouraging more of its jobseekers to develop friendships and take an active role in learning new vocational skills.
There is already an established gardening group operating on several days, a new ceramic group, (pictured) which has just finished a block of training and next up is jewellery making, card and illustration and we hope to be adding basic wood-work with furniture restoration, willow work and bee-keeping later in the summer.
People's Farm Food Market Opens
Jobseekers, volunteers and staff celebrate the opening of our People’s Farm Food Market situated at the Ladeside training centre on St Catherine’s Road behind Homebase.
CheckIn Works recruits volunteer Buddies across Perth & Kinross to support disadvantaged adults gaining access to meaningful employment and job training opportunities.
Achieving a positive experience of work can be especially difficult for local people with mental ill-health, disabilities and other barriers to gaining paid employment. Buddies provide the vital support and encouragement to individuals who are starting work.
Could You be a Board Member?
As our organisation has continued to grow, we are always looking for enthusiastic and skilled individuals to join the boards of CheckIn Works or Giraffe Trading. Our small team of board members are friendly and welcoming, and make a essential contribution to this cause and the local Perth community. For an informal chat, please contact James Alexander on 01738 449227.
